Because we take membership seriously, we
offer a New Membership Class each month. The goal is two-fold.
First, we want people to understand the basic beliefs, values,
and commitments of our church. People who join should be able
to make an informed decision based on accurate information.
Second, we want people to truly commit to the values and calling
of our congregation.
Our fast-paced and informative New Members
Class takes a broad look at what it means to be a:
- Christian
- Member of the Church
(all believers)
- Member of the United Methodist
Church
- Member of Martha Bowman UMC
Following are the questions we ask as people
join our church.
On behalf of the whole church, I ask you:
- Do you renounce the spiritual
forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world,
and repent of your sin?
- Do you accept the freedom and
power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression
in whatever forms they present themselves?
- Do you confess Jesus Christ as
your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise
to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which
Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races?
- According to the grace given
to you, will you remain faithful members of Christ's
holy church and serve as Christ's representatives
in the world?
Following is the commitment each member
agrees to live faithfully.
Trusting in Jesus alone as the one who saves
me from my sins and sets me in a right relationship with God,
as I join Martha Bowman UMC, I commit to:
- Protect the UNITY of the church
- Regularly attend WORSHIP
- Find a small group where I can
BELONG and GROW
- Find a ministry where I can SERVE
- REACH OUT to invite others into
the family of God at Martha Bowman
- Faithfully GIVE, recognizing
the tithe is the Lord's
- Consistently PRAY for God to
move in our church
